My Aims My main aim can be summed up as the following - to do everything in my power to enable my dogs to excel to the best of their ability in whatever they attempt in life. For this to occur, I will always have a strong focus on both structure and temperament. Good structure is essential for the dog to have a long, happy, healthy life - the performance dog needs excellent structure to be able to perform to the best of his ability, to jump and twist and turn on a dime, and the companion dog needs to be able to romp and play with his family, to race full speed along the beach or after a ball. Good temperament is also essential for the dog to have a long, happy, healthy life - the performance dog needs the drive and enthusiasm to work with his handler, the confidence and intelligence to learn and perform tasks independently, and both the performance dog and the companion dog need to live in the real world, to accept other dogs, other people and the many and varied experiences of life without aggression or fear. The basis of both traits lies in the genes of the parents, and thus I will never breed a dog that I believe to be faulted in either area. I will only ever breed if I truly think the parents can produce puppies better than themselves. Part of this will also include the undertaking of genetic testing such as MDR1, CEA, DNA profiling (and others as they become available) as well as hip/elbow examination by x-ray and eye examinations by a qualified ophthalmologist. |
